The very history of new balance,
speaks of unparalleled comfort and an imposing presence.
Founded in 1906 in Boston, Massachusetts, the birthplace of America, new balance began as a manufacturer of insoles that supported the soles of the feet from an anatomical and physiological perspective, and of orthopedic shoes designed to correct various walking ailments.
After the mid-century boom of the 1950s, the company began producing custom shoes in the 1960s, a time when citizens enjoyed diverse lifestyles. Since then, with a manufacturing philosophy that prioritizes foot health, new balance has garnered immense support from athletes and joggers alike. This legacy continues today in the mass-produced products that have made the brand a household name worldwide. In 1985, the company released the high-standard model M1300, followed by updates like the M1500, M1400, and M1600. Then, in 1999, it introduced the M1700, the progenitor of the "CM1700UG-1" we are featuring today.

While it may not be true that "style starts with the feet," sneakers are often judged by their appearance. However, the insole is truly the heart of a sneaker. Uncomfortable wear makes it impossible to enjoy fashion, and it's safe to assume that no world-renowned historical shoemaker has reached today by ignoring "comfort." The history of new balance, which has been crafting products from a medical standpoint for over a century, itself tells a story of unparalleled comfort and an imposing, dignified presence.
It may not be easy to decipher the design logic that inexplicably complements chinos and slacks, but after several months of wear, the comfort that molds to your feet is nothing short of sublime. The lineage from the M1300, reportedly praised by Ralph Lauren himself, is undoubtedly a masterpiece worthy of being called a "20th-century classic."
Among new balance's many iconic models, the M1700 stands out for its exceptional style. This "CM1700UG-1," a special order featuring an ice-gray gradient, is scheduled for release in mid-December at all URBAN RESEARCH stores.
