Installations alongside the latest products and original items

New Balance's new concept store opens on Friday, July 17, 2020, in Nihonbashi Hamacho. Named "T-HOUSE New Balance," the space draws inspiration from the spirit of hospitality found in the traditional Japanese "tea room."
Founded in 1906 in Boston, Massachusetts, on the East Coast of the United States, as a manufacturer of orthopedic shoes, New Balance has evolved into an athletic brand beloved worldwide, actively developing footwear, apparel, and more.
Here in Japan, through many years of engagement, they have launched a new brand, "TOKYO DESIGN STUDIO New Balance," where a design team comprising members from both Japan and the US works on developing original items. These items, born from Japanese craftsmanship and sensibility, are also planned for release at "T-HOUSE New Balance."
In addition to New Balance's global collaborations and latest items, many original products available only at "T-HOUSE New Balance" are planned for release here.
Furthermore, installations featuring artists and creators active in various fields will be held monthly with new themes.
The space itself, created by relocating a 122-year-old storehouse and rebuilding it within a new structure, is also a must-see. Architect Tsunehisa Nagasaka oversaw the design concept and interior.
His idea of utilizing the historic storehouse not as it was, but by giving it new functions and value, aligns with New Balance's philosophy: to continuously reinterpret tradition and culture with fresh perspectives, and to share it with people through new expressions.
Additionally, the "TOKYO DESIGN STUDIO" located within the building will serve as the creative hub for the new brand "TOKYO DESIGN STUDIO New Balance," launched in 2018, which operates with its own distinct branding separate from existing New Balance products.
This flexible space, which belies its origins as a storehouse, will likely continue to offer unique expressions, serving at times as a shop, and at other times as a gallery or event space utilizing the entire area.
We eagerly anticipate this new hub for creation, born in Nihonbashi Hamacho, a district long celebrated for its craftsmanship.
