Two of Five Factories Now Operational
New Balance is currently engaged in the development and production of face masks at two of its own factories in the United States, with plans to scale up production.
Of its five factories in the U.S., two—the Lawrence factory in Massachusetts and the Norridgewock factory in Maine—are currently involved in the development and manufacturing of medical-grade face masks.
Through collaboration with local medical institutions and research organizations, face mask prototypes were developed in just one week.
New Balance is continuously refining the design, materials, and specifications of its face masks to meet the requirements of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and to ensure ease of use for the medical staff who need them.
By mid-April, the company aims to produce up to 100,000 units per week across both factories.
Furthermore, the company is rapidly developing other personal protective equipment, such as gowns and foot covers. Currently, mask supplies are intended for distribution within the United States.
