What is "Sea Island Cotton"?
Sea Island Cotton, often called a "phantom cotton," is harvested at a rate of only one-tenth of one-millionth of the world's total cotton production. Its fibers are exceptionally fine and long, among the finest of all cotton varieties, possessing a luster and texture akin to silk. The yarn's natural twist ensures high moisture absorbency and durability, having even been used in parachute materials.
The Japanese branch of the "West Indian Sea Island Cotton Association," which oversees Sea Island Cotton products, has authorized only GLEN CLYDE's factory in Japan to produce casual socks using this material. Utilizing "hand-linking technology," a skill mastered by only a few artisans in Japan, each stitch is sewn by hand. This meticulous process ensures a superior fit at the toe, providing a sensation of perfect fit with every wear.
Comfort Born from Artisanal Skill
Standard socks are often produced on large-gauge knitting machines, which can lead to looseness. However, GLEN CLYDE's factory uses smaller-gauge machines, resulting in a snug fit even for smaller Japanese feet. Furthermore, the precise adjustment of the yarn counts for both the outer and inner threads ensures comfort even during prolonged wear, minimizing stress.
The current collection features low-gauge and mid-gauge socks suitable for any season. With a rich variety of designs, they are perfect for a range of occasions, from business settings to weekend outings. These exceptional socks showcase the expertise and techniques that GLEN CLYDE has cultivated as a sock factory over its 20-year history.
