HOUSE INDUSTRIES
For those with an eye for design and unique goods, the name “HOUSE INDUSTRIES” might immediately bring to mind favorite logos and products.
Founded in 1993 by Andy Cruz and Rich Roat, the company is a design collective specializing in typography. They gained widespread recognition with the “Eames Font,” created in collaboration with the Eames Office in 2010. In Japan, they are known for collaborations with the Nagasaki ceramic brand “HASAMI” and with San Francisco’s “Heath Ceramics.” While these associations might lead many to imagine mid-century modern designs, their work is remarkably diverse, encompassing many hot-rod-inspired American classic aesthetics.
For this collaboration, JOURNAL STANDARD commissioned HOUSE INDUSTRIES to create designs themed around “indigo blue.” The base items—T-shirts, sweatshirts, and socks—are all Made in Japan. Particularly noteworthy is the sweatshirt, crafted from “Tasuki Yarn,” a blend of Mexican cotton and nylon twisted together to create a yarn that is both soft and strong. This material offers a unique dry texture that ages beautifully, perfectly complementing the HOUSE INDUSTRIES designs.
This collaboration, merging meticulously detailed items with highly accomplished typography, is a noteworthy addition to casual styling.
