Stable Footing is the Shortcut to Cool "Short-Pants-istas"!
A Gathering of "Short-Pants-istas" Showing Off Their Styles
On the afternoon of Saturday, June 21st, amidst a lively atmosphere of shoppers, a special OPENERS x ISETAN MEN’S event, "Short-Pants-istas," was held at the Men's Shoes section on the B1 floor of Isetan Shinjuku Store. The event featured a photoshoot of "short-pants-istas"—those who enjoy coordinating their outfits with shorts.

The 2014 "Short-Pants-ista" Looks
Reflecting on the first-ever "short-pants-ista" photoshoot by OPENERS and ISETAN MEN’S, the ISETAN MEN’S buyer for men's shoes highlighted "the importance of silhouette and socks" as key points.
“Unlike full-length pants, shoes can look isolated with shorts, so we often see people pairing them with shoes that have a voluminous round toe rather than elegant pointed toes.
To balance the overall coordination, providing stability to the feet is the shortcut to becoming a cool "short-pants-ista." In that sense, many people this time seemed to pay attention to the volume of their footwear.”
“Design-wise, slip-ons are the most popular, followed by sneakers. While slip-ons and sneakers are ideal for creating a light feel, dress shoes can also be a good choice for a contrasting look. Opting for casual types like Derby shoes or full brogues will give a nicely polished impression,” he advised.
Regarding socks, he added, “While no-show socks are overwhelmingly preferred for short styles, I hope people will also try pairing them with mid-length or short socks. Socks are a must-have item to add impact to feet that might otherwise look bare with just shoes. Also, though there weren't many this time, in summer, accessories like anklets can add a touch of flair and make the overall look more vibrant, so definitely consider them!”
Despite it being June, many men were seen wearing shorts on the day of the photoshoot, with many enjoying short styles whether with family or as couples. Those who looked particularly adept at styling shorts were men wearing shorts with a silhouette reminiscent of cut-off tapered full-length pants. The balance with bare legs was good, and the styling, which considered the compatibility between shorts and shoes, left a positive impression.
As shorts season truly begins, we hope men will also showcase their "short-pants-ista" style with healthy legs, perhaps cared for with body cream.
This time, we divided into OPENERS and ISETAN teams to photograph the "short-pants-istas." The snaps from the ISETAN team are currently featured on ISETAN MEN'S NET (http://www.imn.jp/post/89445166742/part1). Be sure to check them out too!
