The Allure of "Individual Order"
A Garment That Lets Your Individuality Shine
The Allure of "Individual Order"
"Welcome to the world of Individual Order. Let's begin a collaboration to create a garment that is uniquely yours, going beyond the confines of standard sizing."
These are the opening words in the "Individual Order" booklet for Paul Smith COLLECTION.
While it falls under the category of pattern order, it distinguishes itself from mere alterations to fit the body. As the name suggests, it offers a diverse range of choices to better express the individuality of the wearer. The Spring/Summer plan for this service has just launched on February 20th.
Broadly divided into classic suits and design suits, we will focus on the latter here.
There are three models: a peak lapel two-button suit with contrasting lapels and seams, a two-button suit with double waist flap pockets, and a two-button suit (Aoyama store exclusive) with gussets on the sleeve slit.
First, you select from over 30 types of the highest quality fabrics, tailored to your budget and purpose. The collection features suit materials gathered from over a dozen world-renowned textile brands. There are also fabrics that have undergone various techniques, dyeing, and special processing based on Paul Smith's ideas, developed through close consultations and repeated refinements with highly skilled artisans.
Next, you try on the chosen model sample, the so-called gauge garment, and are measured. Then comes the details. There are 20 patterns of beautiful printed linings, updated each season. They are all witty, unusual, and uniquely expressive, truly embodying the Paul Smith spirit. It's also pleasing that there are many sewing patterns for the lining specifications.
The buttonholes offer a variety of options, with 8 thread colors to choose from, including matching the main fabric. These, along with the lining, create an artistic sensibility.
The button fastening features unique stitching in arrow, cross, parallel, and diamond shapes, evoking a handmade feel. You can also choose from multiple button options, such as luxurious, thick horn buttons or metal buttons. For the cuff specification, you can choose whether or not to have the lining extended to the underside of the sleeve where the buttons are attached.

The change pocket flaps are deliberately overlapped. Other contrasting details are applied to the joining points of lapels, sleeves, and side panels.

In addition to a collar cloth matching the main fabric, you can choose from four other colors. The suit in the photo features a vibrant red.

Once the lining details and interior are decided, the data is sent to the sewing factory, where it is meticulously crafted by skilled artisans over approximately three weeks. From here, through exceptional sewing techniques, a delicate process of fusing "beauty" and "functionality" takes place.
Beautifully rolled lapels, a snug fit around the neck, and perfectly settled shoulder lines... You will undoubtedly feel the craftsmanship in this elegantly finished suit.
However, high quality is just one element. What is condensed into this suit is the dedication of "Paul Smith COLLECTION" and your individuality. This is the greatest charm of "Individual Order." We hope you will fully enjoy your own unique garment in the world.
