Yusuke“The first time in a while I thought, ‘This mouton item is really good,’ was when I tried on a new coat at the renovated Loewe store in Hankyu Men’s Osaka at the end of August. I used to associate mouton outerwear with being hot and heavy, but this was surprisingly comfortable, much lighter and easier to wear than I expected. I was impressed by how much the cutting and tailoring have evolved.”
When I tried on that coat and looked in the mirror, I was reminded of the album cover for jazz pianist Duke Jordan’s masterpiece, ‘Flight to Denmark.’ It’s a striking photo of Duke himself standing in the snow, and the silhouette of the coat felt similar. The coat he’s wearing is likely leather, but the silhouette evoked that style I love so much.
With a mouton coat, I only need a thin turtleneck inside, and it’s easy to just throw on when going somewhere cold. Plus, the fluffy fur look is quite appealing. My secret wish right now is to wear this mouton coat in the snow or in cold places like Russia in winter.”
