The Hobo Bag
With the season for domestic travel, whether for leisure or visiting family, increasing, Editor Demon King Tomoki Yusuke favors the hobo bag for short, two-day trips. He dreams of a travel style like "that person" who cuts through the wind with the bag slung over their shoulder.

Yusuke“Lately, I’ve been traveling domestically quite a bit, often for one-night, two-day trips to regional areas. I usually take the Shinkansen, and as you know, bringing a suitcase onto the train can be quite cumbersome. I find a duffel bag much more agile, and it’s significantly more convenient for storage and ease of access. So, this time, I’ve put together a lineup of stylish hobo bags perfect for casual domestic travel.”
Aside from overseas trips where luggage is naturally more, I prefer a duffel bag for domestic travel, both for its aesthetic and practicality. Bags like the Loewe one I’m holding in the photo are wonderfully soft, made of supple leather, and have ample depth, making them very user-friendly. Even for a simple journey, I want to feel a sense of chic travel. While a trolley might be fine for air travel, this type of duffel bag really captures the mood for Shinkansen or train journeys.
Incidentally, my go-to Shinkansen snack is Sujahta’s Super Premium Ice Cream. The ‘Mikan Ice’ sold on the Tokaido Shinkansen line is particularly exquisite. It seems to be seasonal, so it’s not always available, but I always buy it when I see it on the cart. Even if it’s not on the cart, sometimes they can bring it out from the back if you ask. And it’s specifically ‘mikan’ (mandarin orange), not just ‘orange,’ which is another nice touch.”
