Sixty Years of Tradition, Revived in Various Materials and Colors
The "Horsebit Loafer," instantly recognizable with its signature metal hardware on the vamp inspired by a horse's bit, was born in 1953. From its inception, it captivated Hollywood's leading actors, including Clark Gable, John Wayne, and Fred Astaire. In 1985, it was added to the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, solidifying its status as a beautiful product that transcends fashion. Today, the Horsebit motif itself is used in clothing and bags, establishing it as one of Gucci's most important and iconic symbols.
The Horsebit Loafer is characterized by its tubular construction, which requires exceptionally advanced techniques. This means it has no insole, offering a light and supple feel. This highly specialized craftsmanship and tradition, found only among a select few shoemakers, has been passed down through generations of Gucci artisans.
The newly released "1953 Collection" features a wide range of colors and materials, including patent leather, suede, crocodile, python, and canvas with the "Flora" print. Some models make a bold statement with studs covering the entire upper and heel. All models are finished with a special "Gucci 1953 Made in Italy" label on the insole, a detail that classic enthusiasts will surely appreciate.
These legendary loafers, boldly reinterpreted by Creative Director Frida Giannini, exude a unique personality through their daring colors and materials, while still evoking their 60-year history. Whether you're a long-time admirer or a first-time wearer, this season's Horsebit Loafers are an undeniable choice.
