Vol. 11 Tom Ford's Top 7

YusukeFor my first "The★Best 7" of the new year, I'm featuring Tom Ford, a brand that currently has my undivided attention. The elegance born from the designer's overwhelming aesthetic sensibility, the collections that epitomize the essence of luxury, and a refreshingly cool modernism. The men's wardrobe collection that reflects all of this is Tom Ford, and I consider it the greatest of all time.

I've been buying Tom Ford items since the debut collection. For the first store that opened on Madison Avenue in New York in 2007, I made a reservation first thing on opening day and ordered a glen check three-piece suit. It was the day after the opening reception, and I was the very first customer to place a formal order at the store. I eagerly went to my 9 AM appointment, and while admiring the luxurious furnishings, which were inspired by the 1930s, I waited for my tailor. However, the tailor didn't arrive for quite some time. In the meantime, the butler offered me champagne, and I indulged. I remember feeling wonderfully good from the morning, surrounded by a space that condensed the brand's aesthetic. Although I had to wait a little, I felt that such leisurely time was also elegant when creating clothes.

Speaking of overwhelming aesthetic sensibility, designer Tom Ford has also released two films as a director. "A Single Man," released in 2009, and "Nocturnal Animals," released last year. Both are masterpieces that fully demonstrate his exceptional talent in character portrayal, worldview, and storytelling.

The props, costumes, locations, cars, and even the stationery on the desk are all perfectly arranged, overlapping with the world of his collections and shops. While there are many differences from fashion expression, they undoubtedly capture the world of Tom Ford. It goes without saying that I was deeply impressed.

This time, I've selected basic items from the collection, but each one has a strong presence. When I interview Tom, what always strikes me is the incredible persuasiveness of his words. Meeting him gives me a tremendous amount of energy. It's understandable that his way of life is reflected in his creations, and it's natural that the things he makes are wonderful. This means that anything you choose will be wonderful. Not many brands are like that, are they?
