A new aesthetic in single-piece leather | JOHN LOBB

Introducing COAST, a New Single Monk Strap
Contemporary Elegance Born from Craftsmanship and Form
As one matures, tastes evolve in myriad ways. What becomes clear is not a preference for ostentatious decoration, but for the essence of an object hidden within simple beauty. The desire shifts from the decorative to the simple, beautiful, and elegant. This season's Prestige Line new arrival, "COAST," is a shoe for such discerning adults.

The Single Monk Strap: Austere Allure
When one thinks of simple shoes, the first image that comes to mind is likely a wholecut plain-toe. Its construction from a single piece of leather simplifies the manufacturing process, making it a shoe where material and technical skill are plainly evident. In other words, it is a design that only brands confident in their quality can undertake.
On the other hand, monk strap shoes are among the more complex designs. While double monks have gained popularity in recent years, those seeking a more classical aesthetic should also consider the single monk strap.
The term "monk" refers to a friar. As the name suggests, the prototype for this shoe is said to be the sandals worn by monks in the Alpine regions of Europe. Perhaps due to this history, a certain ascetic austerity is characteristic of the monk strap.
A Touch of Lightness for a Classical Silhouette
As mentioned, there are single and double monk straps, each with its own character. While the double monk strap pairs well with contemporary casual suit styles, the single monk strap is suited for more elegant ensembles.

Fitting for such classical ensembles is "COAST," one of the models in John Lobb's Prestige Line released this season. Crafted on the "7000" last for a sleek appearance, this design features a seamless, single-piece leather construction.
This signifies that, for John Lobb, this shoe represents the culmination of their confidence. In addition to their high level of craftsmanship, the use of Courchevel calf, known for its resistance to dirt and scratches, adds a layer of practicality. This combination conveys John Lobb's philosophy: that fine shoes are not meant to be merely admired, but to be enjoyed for their comfort.
Furthermore, the strap is designed to flow towards the side, and the newly designed square buckle enhances its elegance. With the beauty of a wholecut plain-toe, the last, the materials, and a perfectly sized buckle, the "COAST" is meticulously crafted to offer a new era of sophisticated dressing that is not merely heavy, but modern.
