And Alden is renowned for its uncompromising use of materials, most notably its cordovan (premium horsehide leather tanned with pure vegetable tannins).

This special order from Margaret Howell features three models to choose from: a plain-toe in the Barrie last made with rare cordovan; a plain-toe in the Military last crafted from supple calfskin for casual wear; and a mid-cut boot in the Modified last made from calfskin.

All of the lasts are signature Alden creations, developed in-house. These include the traditional and basic Barrie last; the Military last, known for its comfortable fit and relaxed construction; and the Modified last, offering the finest comfort derived from Alden's expertise in crafting orthopedic shoes for the handicapped. It would be enjoyable to try them all on and compare.

Unlike European shoes, Alden shoes are highly practical, exude a rugged charm, and develop attractive creases with wear, even when treated roughly. They will add a subtle, exquisite touch to the traditional outfits you'll want to wear this autumn.
