A New Custom Color for a Legendary Model Loved by Michael Caine

Since opening its doors in Ebisu as a select eyewear shop, Continuer has been a constant leader in the scene, cherished by discerning adults. In July, the store celebrates its 9th anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, Continuer commissioned a special order from the popular Oliver Goldsmith. A custom color model has been created for this iconic, timeless piece.

The Quintessential Wellington: "CONSUL-s"

In the 1960s, photographer DAVID BAILEY dominated the London fashion photography scene. Active inモード fashion magazines like VOGUE and maintaining close ties with numerous celebrities, he was a quintessential artist embodying the London street culture of the era, known as "Swinging London."

Among the portraits in his 1969 photo collection "GOODBYE BABY&AME" is a famous image: the renowned actor Michael Caine, impeccably dressed in a black suit with a tightened tie, a cigarette dangling from his lips, gazing into the lens.

What first catches the eye are the black-rimmed glasses he wears. These are Oliver Goldsmith's "CONSUL-s," often hailed as the definitive Wellington model. With its vertically deep, classic square lens shape, this Wellington style remains a timeless design, undimmed by the nearly half-century since its debut. The bridge and temples are all positioned at the top of the frame, creating a beautiful browline. From the uniformly gold-colored hinges and engravings to the 10-karat gold rivets, the attention to detail is, as expected from Oliver Goldsmith, exceptional.

Continuer commissioned a custom color model of this iconic "CONSUL-s." The result is a marble black model featuring a unique, textured marbled pattern. When these were revived six years ago, vintage materials existed, and Continuer sold many models in this color, prized for its elegant, classic style. However, due to immense popularity, the limited vintage stock was depleted. Yet, in pursuit of that same refined texture, they have now recreated it using current materials.
