Online Shopping During a 20-Minute Bath

I've been a user of NET-A-PORTER since its launch in 2000, so we have a long history together.

I prefer browsing on my smartphone to my PC. For 20 minutes every evening, while soaking in the bath, I check my iPhone in its waterproof case. I add items I want to my wish list, read the online magazine, and before I know it, 20 minutes have flown by. Sometimes I end up staying in the bath too long, and my family will say, 'Are you still looking?' (laughs).

One of my favorite sections is Travel. I love traveling, so when Kenya or Namibia is featured, I can imagine myself wearing certain outfits there. I often use the sites before a trip; I recently bought two pairs of colorful espadrilles before heading to Bali. And at MR PORTER, I enjoy reading the daily lifestyle articles. Both sites offer items not available in Japan and introduce me to brands I didn't know, which is always exciting.

When I'm looking for items, I set the filter to sort by price, highest first. For example, if I search for 'skirts,' I might see a staggering ¥1.5 million skirt, which is a feast for the eyes. The suggestion of 'statement skirts' has also influenced me; skirts that were once minor players in my wardrobe now take center stage in my outfits. In this way, NET-A-PORTER also provides inspiration for my style.

What Matters Most When Choosing Gifts

Recently, I gave a bathrobe I chose from MR PORTER as a birthday gift to a French artist friend. He wears a bathrobe every morning while creating collages, so he was thrilled, which made me happy too. What I value most when choosing a gift is researching the recipient. I try to imagine what they usually wear, what they like, and what would make them happy. I also enjoy observing people, so I'd say I'm quite good at choosing gifts (laughs).

I often use MR PORTER, which carries menswear, to find gifts for my husband or father-in-law. I've already started using it for this year's Christmas. You see, for me, the Christmas season is when NET-A-PORTER and MR PORTER truly shine. My British husband's family places great importance on Christmas celebrations, and gifts are exchanged not only among parents and siblings but also among cousins.

In the past, it would take me about a week to buy and send gifts to my extended family of about 30 people in the UK, but now, with the powerful aid of online shopping, it's truly a lifesaver.
