The "DS 5" Reborn as DS Brand's Flagship

Captivated by Italian Leather Goods. A founding member of UNITED ARROWS and its Creative Director, Yasuto Kamoshita is a renowned buyer who has shaped UNITED ARROWS and Japan's fashion scene through his buying, collaborations with other companies, and the establishment of his private label, Camoshita. Not only is his eye for buying impeccable, but he is also a fashionista who always presents a sharp, cutting-edge style. This spring, Kamoshita-san was drawn to these leather accessories during his buying trip. What did this connoisseur purchase? And why?

Purchase 01
"GERARDO FOSSATI" Cap Toe Shoes
[GERARDO FOSSATI] Cap Toe Shoes

I bought these cap toe shoes from [GERARDO FOSSATI] at an exhibition during my business trip to Italy. They are a one-tone brown with a medallion cap toe featuring round perforations.
"For me, the basis of buying for work is what I myself want. After looking at the collections, I make impulse purchases (laughs)! And I buy them for myself too. I can't speak about them unless I've worn them first."

It seems that Kamoshita-san's choices for his public persona and private life are the same. While they may be impulse buys, they are backed by his experience and aesthetic sensibility. Good things are drawn to Kamoshita-san.
"Actually, this Gerardo Fossati brand was established by Silvano Lattanzi, inspired by a shoe collection owned by an Italian man named Gerardo Fossati, and named after him. I think the best way to wear them is in a classic, dapper old-man style. They would look cool with a three-piece suit, or perhaps with chino pants! I believe these shoes develop their character with wear. They have a rounded silhouette but are also elegant, and I recommend them to those who want something a bit more distinctive than Alden!"

Purchase 02
"Hidetaka Fukaya" Clutch Bag
"HIDETAKA FUKAYA" Clutch Bag

Kamoshita-san visited Hidetaka Fukaya, a shoemaker based in Florence. Fukaya-san is renowned for his shoes with a distinctive, glamorous last. It was there that Kamoshita-san was also captivated by Fukaya-san's bags.
"I was drawn to the finest leather, the beautiful colors, and the simple form. So, I ended up ordering one for myself. Clutch bags are very popular among buyers and industry insiders. They're great for carrying only the essentials. When buying for store expansion, I hesitated because of the price, but I couldn't resist the passionate talk about craftsmanship from designer Fukaya-san (laughs). His passion and craftsmanship transcend price."

Indeed, there are many customers in Japan who are "Fukaya fans." The evaluation from buyers is also extremely high.
"When it comes to leather goods, it's important to choose high-quality items. They become more cherished the more you use them. In that regard, Hidetaka Fukaya is second to none. Besides clutch bags, they have a plethora of other bags I want. The combination of Fukaya-san's craftsmanship and passion resonates with me."

Purchase 03
"LONGHI" Belt
"LONGHI" Belt

Business settings are becoming more casual. Suits are no longer just uniforms but are increasingly becoming fashion statements. While jackets and trousers, and no-tie styles are more common now, and the prestige of suits, though diminished compared to Europe and America, still remains. During his business trip to Italy, he encountered this Longhi belt at an exhibition.
"There are surprisingly few belts that go well with suits that are relaxed yet not too casual. This is exactly what I'm feeling right now. The slightly old-fashioned vibe is fantastic!"

Longhi Belt ¥23,100

The excellent balance of formality and casualness seems to have caught Kamoshita-san's eye. Hence, he purchased it with his own money! The high-quality leather with a grained texture has rounded edges. There's actually a secret hidden here.
"If you look at the back, you'll see it's made using a pouch stitching technique. In Italy, it's called 'tubolare,' and this is Longhi's original. I recommend experiencing the quality of an original at least once."
The subtle sheen and the simple, thin gold buckle are also understated and modern. It seems the "old-fashioned" vibe is key, which likely connects to the prevailing trend of "gentlemanly" style in menswear. It's about a relaxed, modern masculinity, not overly stiff. Remember, it's about the *vibe*, not being literally "old-fashioned."
