Kaname Kawabata (CHEMISTRY) "Tokyo Edition" Now Airing!
"BACK TO HOME supported by Onitsuka Tiger," currently airing on the music channel "SPACE SHOWER TV" (CS television), is a popular program. Each month, an artist returns to the city where they grew up, exploring fashion, music, and their origins and present day, centered around the keyword "BACK TO HOME." Following installments in Kobe, Sapporo, Fukuoka, and Nagoya, the final episode airing in August 2010 features Kaname Kawabata of CHEMISTRY, who will celebrate their 10th anniversary next spring. He strolls through Kameari, a neighborhood he loved and lived in even after his debut.
*The "BACK TO HOME supported by Onitsuka Tiger" segment within SPACE SHOWER TV's new program "SPEZIA AREA" will air "Tokyo Edition Part 2" on August 11 (Wed), "Tokyo Edition Part 3" on August 18 (Wed), and "Tokyo Edition Part 4" on August 25 (Wed), from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM each day! "BACK TO HOME supported by Onitsuka Tiger," which has run for five months since April, finally reaches its conclusion at "Onitsuka Tiger TOKYO" in Daikanyama, the first directly managed Onitsuka Tiger store.—.
I lived in Kameari until I was 24. Kameari is a warm town with a strong sense of community. There's a candy store, the Kameari Park and shrine where we used to play, and at the local monjayaki restaurant "Sagano," they have a "Black Monjayaki" made in my image. I've only tried it once myself. Do you know what it tastes like? It's black sesame and tantanmen flavor.
I come to Daikanyama to have tea or shop. It's different from Shibuya; there aren't as many people, and it's one of my favorite areas. But I didn't come here as a student (laughs). In junior high school, I'd go to Ameyoko in Ueno, and in high school, I started coming to Shibuya. Back then, my allowance was small, so I'd go to Koenji to look for vintage clothes.
This Summer, I'm Hooked on Short Pants, Which I'm Trying for the First Time
I knew about Onitsuka Tiger, but after looking around the shop today, I was surprised by the wide variety of sneakers. I chose the "MEXICO 66 LAUTA" in my favorite gold with soft white stripes. They're comfortable to wear, and they add a bold touch to the tighter short pants I've been enjoying this year for the first time.
I've always loved sneakers, and design is a particularly important factor for me. These "MEXICO 66 LAUTA" have the sharp look I like recently, and they fit well.
I chose this T-shirt because I was drawn to the design. According to the shop staff, it's inspired by the design of old Onitsuka Tiger shoe boxes. That must be why it has a retro-modern feel.
What is "BACK TO HOME" for Kaname Kawabata?
When I think of the keyword "BACK TO HOME," I think of my hometown, my roots. The town that watched over me when I debuted, my playmates, my friends.

I believe I am who I am today because of my hometown, and even when I moved out on my own, I couldn't bring myself to move far from Kameari.
This summer, I'll be performing at outdoor festivals as the limited-time unit CHEMISTRY+Synergy. I believe we can deliver a more powerful and evolved performance style than a CHEMISTRY-only stage. The first single from CHEMISTRY+Synergy, "Shawty," features two songs with a sense of speed, perfect for summer. It's incredibly exciting to sing at festival venues, which offer a sense of freedom and a more challenging atmosphere than a tour. Please come and enjoy it with us.
