Expressing the desire of women who love self-improvement through clothing
—Until the previous season, your collection was under the brand name "HACHI," but this time it's "SUEHILLO." What is the theme for Spring/Summer 2010?
As we've changed the brand name from this season, the theme is "HELLO!"
I believe women today, myself included, incorporate self-improvement into their daily lives, and they want to share the results of that effort publicly.
This leads to showing off arms, emphasizing the bust, or creating flattering leg lines, with a desire to appear both intelligent and beautiful. I've created clothes that I would want to wear in such moments.
—What are the design highlights and key pieces for this season?
This season, we've developed designs based on a running silhouette.
For the jackets, we've created a cut-out under the sleeve and significantly shifted the armhole inward towards the shoulder.
Sleeveless styles—We're offering many vests, dresses, and asymmetrical tops with a running silhouette.
Women have varying bust widths even at the same height, so for most of the jackets and vests this season, instead of buttons, we've designed them to fasten with chains or leather ties, leaving a slight opening. This allows for size adjustment depending on how they are fastened.
Additionally, we've focused on materials with textured surfaces, such as resin-coated denim and twill, shape-memory fabrics, waffle knits, and cotton voile with pintucked ribbon details.
—What is the ideal woman for "SUEHILLO"?
There isn't a specific ideal appearance, but perhaps someone cool and "unyielding"... like myself (laughs).
—What are your favorite designs, materials, and colors?
I like clothes that have strong design elements but are unified in a simple way.
I believe that clothes with excellent pattern-making and material execution convey a simple impression, no matter how complex they might seem. That's what I aim for.
I used to prefer natural materials, but recently, when I choose something I like, it often turns out to be synthetic fibers. I don't have any particular prejudice.
Gray is my favorite color; the "SUEHILLO" name and price tags are, of course, gray. I've even considered doing the entire exhibition in shades of gray, but it seems difficult from a business perspective (laughs). I'd like to try it someday.
—What message do you want to convey through your clothing?
When people ask about the target demographic for the brand, I always reply, "There is no target demographic."
A man who visited the exhibition tried on several pieces, saying, "I could wear this."
While I know it's impossible for everyone to wear my clothes, I want to say "YES" to those who appreciate "SUEHILLO."
There are so many reasons why people feel it's difficult, like "I'm too old" or "My circumstances don't allow it."
If you keep trying without getting discouraged, you will eventually reach your "YES."
—Thank you
