Once You Get Used to These, You Won't Be Able to Wear Other Shoes

MatsudaYou’ve already started wearing the new leather sneakers released at the end of August. How do you find the comfort?

YamanoHonestly, these are excellent. It goes without saying, but ease of movement is a crucial factor for shoes. Especially as one gets older, not only style but also how easy they are to wear and walk in becomes extremely important. In that sense, these sneakers are so light and comfortable that it’s almost disorienting at first. Once you get used to them, you won’t be able to wear other shoes (laughs).

MatsudaThank you. Do you often wear them with dressier outfits, like you are today?

John Lobb’s New Innovation Deserves a New Name, Not Just ‘Sneakers’

MatsudaThat’s precisely the sentiment with which we released these shoes.
Fundamentally, these shoes, called ‘Winner,’ were conceived by combining the last (wooden mold) and upper of a dress shoe with a sneaker sole. Therefore, we used the ‘8695’ last, which is the most authentic cap-toe last, also used for the ‘City’ model. The upper design is also from our 2004 Year Model.
In that sense, they are made with a completely different concept from our existing ‘Sprint’ series, so perhaps they can be considered a category of comfort shoes distinct from sneakers. They also feature special insoles, which should enhance their cushioning.


MatsudaThe best-selling color for these sneakers is the light brown. This version also has a cream-colored sole, giving it a lighter overall impression. I believe that’s the secret to its popularity. In other words, if you think of them as sneakers, the black and dark brown versions with dark soles might feel too heavy. Although, in practice, the dark colors are easier to match.

YamanoThat’s precisely why I think they need a new name, something other than ‘sneakers.’
