MARGARET HOWELL
This Season's Picks: Items Rooted in "Britain"
MARGARET HOWELLFor Margaret Howell, the keyword "British tradition" is an indispensable element in her design philosophy, even as a designer brand. This season, in particular, marks a return to her roots, with a collection that re-examines the essence of "Britishness."

Collaborations Born from Strong Trust
While "Britishness" can be interpreted in many ways, one of the essential elements in discussing Margaret Howell's clothing is her approach to traditional techniques and craftsmanship. In the 1970s, Margaret Howell discovered the excellence of practicality and functionality in menswear and once said:
"I was fascinated by the construction of men's clothing, both inside and out. Everything is made using traditional methods. I began searching for factories with specialized skills and enjoyed working with them, utilizing their expertise."

A reverence for the essence of British clothing led to a "specialist knows best" approach. In other words, to enhance quality, she partnered with experts. This has been Margaret Howell's stance since the brand's inception. This led to collaborations with factories in Scotland, a renowned region for argyle patterns, and with esteemed British heritage brands like Mackintosh and Baracuta for coats.

First, let us introduce the "66 Raincoat," an iconic item featured in this season's collection. This is a collaboration between "Margaret Howell" and "Baracuta," the fourth in a series of special orders that revive a discontinued model from Baracuta. As the name suggests, it is a contemporary reinterpretation by Margaret Howell of a model worn by the England national football team as their official coat in 1966. The material faithfully reproduces the original, a testament to meticulous attention to detail, and it is, of course, entirely produced in Britain. Presented as an item that expresses a new, stylish British tradition through modern coordination. The joint "MARGARET HOWELL" × "BARACUTA" label is the first ever for the long-established Baracuta, founded in 1937, underscoring the depth of their trust.

Also, a familiar presence in recent Margaret Howell collections is Mackintosh, a venerable brand founded in 1822. They are renowned for creating the world's first fully waterproof rubberized coat. The "MARGARET HOWELL" × "MACKINTOSH" collection, released in collaboration with them, is not to be missed. All are made by artisans using the original manufacturing methods, resulting in a limited production run – a testament to their dedication. These are special orders that combine traditional craftsmanship with Margaret Howell's design sensibility.
However, collaborations with heritage brands are merely a means of expression, not the ultimate goal. Margaret Howell's mode of expression is a reflection of her personal values, which are brilliantly manifested in the new collection.
