For the eighth installment, we welcome THE CHILL!

Recently, I headed to Liquid Room in Ebisu upon hearing that Hajime Tachibana would be performing with BAND THE CHILL. Upon arrival, the venue was already buzzing with energy, and as the tension mounted, the show began.

Guest Musicians Take the Stage One After Another

The members of THE CHILL were Chiharu Konno on vocals, KUNI (EX. Natural Calamity) on bass, Gota Yashiki on drums, and Hajime Tachibana on guitar.

Joining them were Yumiko Ohno (Buffalo Daughter) and Toshio Nakanishi, a pioneer of Japan's club music scene, adding to the stellar lineup.

Later, special guests Hitoshi Watanabe (viola) and Tom Schmalz (flute) joined, creating a warm, classical-infused atmosphere that was truly wonderful.

The venue was packed, and it was a fantastic, immersive live performance after a long time. There was a palpable analog feel, a sense of warmth that felt just right.
I loved the way various sonic elements were incorporated, creating a calculated dissonance that was delightful.
I'm eager to hear the album soon. It promises to be full of diverse sounds, keeping things interesting and engaging.

The Genesis of THE CHILL: Part One

So, I asked Hajime about the formation of THE CHILL, and received the following comment:

"Who would be considered the originator of the alternative rock guitarist? When this question arises, whose name comes to mind?
Perhaps Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth?
Someone with slightly different tunings, a different way of fretting, a different playing style...
While names like Arto Lindsay might come up from earlier times, I would nominate Ricky Wilson of The B-52's.
He used a guitar with only five strings, and even then, missing the third string!?
His tuning was also unique. I see it as a form of invention.
Ricky passed away over 15 years ago, and I suspect I'm the only one carrying on this tuning.
I hadn't used it much, feeling too strongly that it 'wasn't mine...' But I felt as if Ricky was telling me, 'I taught you this, so please write more songs in my stead, perform live, and teach others too.'
Lately, I feel like I'm finally making it my own.
It's like the guitar isn't a guitar... or perhaps, it is still a guitar..."

And so, it finally begins!! THE CHILL!
It was truly a night that offered profound reassurance!

Following this, a tour will commence in Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Tokyo. I'm looking forward to it.
Perhaps I'll go out and enjoy myself somewhere again.

But the night didn't end there.

Afterwards, I had the pleasure of participating as a DJ at THE CHILL after-party held at Club Le Baron in Aoyama.
The DJs were myself, Fraser, and Osawa.
We celebrated the night with great energy, and before I knew it, the morning had arrived!
