Design and Functionality in Daily Life
First Look: CAUSE Autumn/Winter Collection

While we no longer set a specific theme for our biannual collections, we believe the brand's core values lie in the pursuit of functionality, detail, and quality.

In terms of design, we prioritize 'ease of wear' and are committed to functional craftsmanship. For boots, this might mean adding a zipper at the back for easier on-and-off, or using soft leather that's gentle on bare feet, while also considering how they pair with clothing and overall balance.

For instance, I enjoy looking at product design for home appliances, furniture, and architecture. I explore ideas for practical items like room shoes that complement furniture, or travel shoes for journeys, seeking inspiration in moments where such items are naturally desired in daily life.

Even with work boots, if we consider the objective of town use, lighter is definitely easier to wear. Pursuing only authentic construction would clearly contradict the intended purpose of wearing them.
We aim to overcome this through functionality. For example, even if they are lightweight, we improve the hold around the ankle for a secure fit, paying close attention to ease of wear.

The Challenge of Simplicity

I like simple things. But I believe that's the most difficult aspect.
Simple designs are challenging in terms of structure and balance, but I find that process enjoyable.

Designs are created using illustration software. Communication with the factory is primarily via email, but when explanations are insufficient, I visit them to discuss with the artisans.

Once the first sample is made, we refine elements like stitch thickness and overall feel, which are difficult to convey in design drawings, and then create the second sample.

If it meets our standards, we display it at the exhibition; if not, we continue to refine it until the next one.

When I first started working with shoes, I was full of questions and went through a lot of trial and error. I believe my strong desire to create is what kept me going.
The design work, which combines three-dimensionality and durability, is very challenging, and precisely because it's challenging, I find it rewarding.

I feel that shoes have finally started to feel familiar to me.
I've studied various shoes, from room shoes to boots, by deconstructing them. Within that, I consider what I can tackle from a Japanese perspective.

I believe that by combining international culture and tradition with the skills of Japanese factories and artisans, we can create even more innovative products. Currently, I am focusing my design efforts with these elements in mind.
