“Cycle” × “CAUSE”

In recent years, you've likely heard a lot about collaborative projects. For me, however, I've always been creating shoes for people I meet, talk with, and spend time with, people who inspire or resonate with me. The brand I'm introducing today, “Cycle,” is one such example.

I met Takahiro Okazawa, the designer of “Cycle,” several years ago at a friend's office and events. We started talking, and from our very first conversation, I sensed a rare, dignified presence about him—clear in his thinking and without hesitation. He's someone I feel very comfortable around.

After becoming acquainted, we discussed work and hobbies on a few occasions. About a year passed, and before I knew it, discussions about a joint creation naturally progressed.

I believe that it's only through listening to each other's work attitudes and philosophies over the course of a year that mutual feelings can mature and a product can be born. Such time holds great significance.

I feel we've created something that truly reflects both of our styles with these sneakers. It began with a bandana graphic motif that Okazawa-kun developed, and the incorporation of CLS's signature black and France's riri zippers has been executed beautifully. I'm grateful for this excellent collaboration.

It's only recently that I've been able to approach collaborative work with a natural ease, as if the tension has eased. It feels like things have ripened, and I have a sense that we can now enjoy working together.

When individuals who have honed their skills in completely different fields meet at the right moment, their strengths can be reflected. Each brand and designer has their own way of thinking, so the process of considering what is optimal in that context and assembling it is incredibly fresh and engaging.

The other day, when I visited the CLS exhibition, Okazawa-kun's distinct style was very evident. He always provides great inspiration. It was a truly wonderful exhibition.
