Approximately two 500ml used PET bottles become one eyeglass frame | PLAGLA
PLAGLA
Lenses made with biodegradable biopolymer that returns to nature
Faced with the reality of approximately 800 tons of plastic waste discarded into the ocean each year, the belief that "the problem cannot be solved without efforts to reduce waste itself" gave birth to a glasses brand that utilizes recycling technology. This is "PLAGLA."

A new brand, "PLAGLA," which proposes eco-friendly glasses using domestic recycling technology, is set to launch this spring.
The frames are made from used PET bottles. Approximately two 500ml PET bottles are used per frame. Production is handled by a factory in Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture, which boasts a 90% share of domestic eyeglass production.
Furthermore, when PLAGLA frames reach the end of their life, they can be recycled again into items such as tableware trays or eyeglass cases.
What's more surprising is the consideration for the environment in the lenses as well. The "BD8 BIO LENS," made from biodegradable biopolymer that returns to nature, decomposes into carbon dioxide, water, and biomass through microorganisms when disposed of in soil or the sea, completely breaking down within five years to become natural fertilizer for plants.
Of course, they are also excellent in terms of quality, cutting 99% of UV rays and offering clear vision along with high durability and impact resistance.
For the launch, the square-type "PG-01" and the round-type "PG-02" are being released. Both models come with blue light-cutting lenses (non-prescription) and offer a choice of four types of reading lenses.
A portion of the sales will be donated to the Public Interest Incorporated Foundation "Umi no Hane Bokin" (Ocean Feather Fund).
