A Product That Evokes Reconsideration of Abundance Through Action

Masaki Ishii (SEIKI DESIGN STUDIO) is a product designer who collaborates with domestic and international clients, engaging in design activities from strategy development to output. Based in Kyoto, he sublimates the aesthetic sensibilities and culture inherited from this land into his design work. We focus on his self-produced product, "KOVA."

Text by Satsuki Wakabayashi

"KOVA," a vase by Masaki Ishii, was born from the concept that "arranging flowers can be done even if the flowers are withered," focusing on the act of "ikebana" (flower arranging) and its spiritual sense.
The material, which appears to be wood at first glance, is "KEBONY," a material that utilizes technology to transform softwood into hardwood. The interior is lined with dried cedar leaves, into which dried flowers are inserted.
When you actually insert flowers, you feel a satisfying resistance, reminiscent of the act of arranging flowers in a kenzan (a spiked flower frog). Faced with the vase, one can truly grasp Ishii's words: "I believe it is the human heart that finds beauty in flowers that are still alive, even when withered." This product is available for order only.
