THINK OF THINGS, the shop and cafe operated by KOKUYO in Sendagaya, Tokyo, has released "CARTON 2.0," a high-spec cardboard box capable of holding water, starting February 10, 2022. This collaboration between Isaac, which developed Japan's first functional cardboard in 1980, and KOKUYO's THINK OF THINGS has resulted in an archive box that is easy to use in daily life.

"CARTON 2.0" is a storage box in a size that is easy to use in daily life, made from special cardboard used for transporting seafood and refrigerated goods. Despite being made of cardboard, it has been updated to protect against humidity, provide cooling, and prevent leaks even when holding water, thanks to its special structure.

It is useful in various scenes of life, beyond the conventional uses of cardboard, such as storing important documents and clothes that you want to protect from discoloration and moisture, cooling food, as a laundry basket, or as a planter box.

The material used is "Cool Dan" by Isaac, which is made by laminating PET aluminum vapor-deposited film onto cardboard base paper. By utilizing the properties of the film and the air layer in the cross-section, the cardboard is given "cooling effect," "waterproof effect," and "moisture-proof effect." It can also be disposed of as combustible waste and is designed to prevent the generation of dioxins.

The box has no adhesive whatsoever; the body and lid are each completed by folding a single piece of cardboard, creating a structure with no gaps that prevents leaks even when holding water.

Additionally, there is a deep fold on the upper part of the body that aligns with the lid, allowing the box to be grasped and lifted without the need for handles.

"CARTON 2.0" boasts high functionality and design, with details unlike conventional cardboard. The short sides feature a simple composition with only the rectangles of the body and lid visible. The silver mirror finish and the horizontal grain of the cardboard create a pleasing aesthetic when placed side-by-side, making it a product that satisfies as an interior piece.
