Mastering Bold and Fine Strokes: A Newly Developed Nib Elevates Calligraphy's Artistry

Montblanc has released the "Meisterstück Calligraphy Collection," developed for calligraphy.

A Limited Edition Featuring Maki-e and Raden, Condensing Kyoto's Beauty

Calligraphy, with its etymological roots in the ancient Greek for "beautiful writing," has origins in various civilizations and continents. Today, it is embraced by enthusiasts seeking to leave their unique mark.

To further enhance the artistry of calligraphy, Montblanc has developed an entirely new nib: the "Flexible Nib." The nib, considered the soul of a fountain pen, embodies Montblanc's advanced and skilled craftsmanship. It is meticulously hand-carved and shaped from solid gold through 35 distinct processes, overseen by master artisans.

The supple gold bends and expands with ease, allowing the line width to vary from 0.3mm to 1.4mm depending on the pressure applied. This enables more intricate and expressive calligraphy.

Three models will be released this time. This new nib will also be featured in Montblanc's timeless classic, the "Meisterstück Yellow Gold 149." Much like royalty in the Middle Ages and Renaissance adorned their calligraphy with precious materials and gold leaf, the "Meisterstück Calligraphy Solitaire Lacquer & Gold Edge Leaf Le Grand" features hand-applied leaf motifs in genuine gold leaf on the cap and barrel, with each piece possessing unique nuances due to its handcrafted nature. It evokes an era of splendor.

Furthermore, the "Meisterstück Calligraphy Solitaire Maki-e Limited Edition 88" is a limited model that encapsulates the elegant aesthetic of Kyoto. The design, inspired by hanging scrolls from the Kyoto-based textile house "Chiso," which has supplied kimonos to the imperial court since its founding in 1555, is luxuriously recreated using maki-e and raden. Dazzling gold powder and delicate mother-of-pearl are expertly set, having been meticulously crafted over a long period. The design depicts the iconic spring and autumn moons of Japan, and the nib is a "Flexible Nib" made of 18K rose gold with a rhodium finish.
