The design evokes a sense of adventure: the cap and barrel are crafted from deep blue precious resin, symbolizing the ripples of the Mississippi; the cap top, shaped like a steamboat's smokestack, is made of ivory-colored precious resin representing steam; and the clip is fashioned after a "jew's harp" (mouth harp), a popular instrument in the southern United States during that era.
