Lladro Perfectly Recreates the Legendary Racehorse 'DEEP IMPACT'

From the esteemed Spanish porcelain brand Lladro comes a limited edition of 3,000 pieces inspired by 'DEEP IMPACT,' the legendary racehorse renowned for his overwhelming victories, including seven G1 races, and who continues to command fervent admiration even after retirement. This marks Lladro's first-ever attempt to perfectly recreate a living animal in the brand's history.

A Rare Star Horse Revived Exclusively for Japan

While Lladro has previously released highly acclaimed works inspired by animals, including horses, they have never before created a piece based on a specific animal. This time, they broke that principle to recreate Deep Impact, who concluded his racing career with a triumphant victory in the Arima Kinen on December 24, 2006.

Approximately two years ago, Ernesto Masuet, one of Lladro's master sculptors particularly skilled in equine works, was appointed for this project of perfect recreation.

Ernesto spent two weeks conducting detailed measurements at a stable on a Hokkaido ranch, dedicating two full years solely to the creation of the original sculpture. Based on Deep Impact, who, about ten years after his retirement, has become a sire of many winning horses, the piece faithfully reproduces his physique, expression, and hoof details, magnificently capturing the supple yet powerful musculature of his racing days.

At Lladro, all stages of production—mold sculpting, molding, assembly, coloring, and firing—are performed by hand. The ability to capture the delicate, slender forelegs and hindlegs characteristic of a Thoroughbred standing tall, without compromising the form, is truly a testament to Lladro's porcelain artistry.

The saddle is adorned with seven stars, symbolizing his seven G1 victories, and his name, details that are sure to delight fans and further express the majestic presence of this champion steed.

A portion of the proceeds from this Deep Impact piece will be donated to support the 'Soma Nomaoi,' a Shinto ritual that has continued for over a thousand years in the northern Hamadori region of Fukushima Prefecture, an area severely impacted by the Great East Japan Earthquake. The ritual is designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan.
