Announced at CEATEC JAPAN 2014 @ Makuhari Messe (October 7-14)
The "1 WEEK SALAD" Project in Collaboration with Toshiba
As the first development concept for Toshiba's "Clean Room Farm" plan, which repurposes semiconductor factories into plant factories, the "1 WEEK SALAD" project—a green salad manufacturing initiative that uses a closed clean room to limit fungal contamination, enabling pesticide-free vegetable cultivation, cutting, and sealed packaging—will be unveiled at "CEATEC JAPAN 2014 @ Makuhari Messe," opening Tuesday, October 7.

Keeps Fresh for Nearly a Week Under Refrigeration
The production of this salad incorporates Toshiba's semiconductor production management technology and know-how, including fluorescent lights optimized for growth, an air conditioning system for uniform temperature and humidity control, a remote monitoring system to track cultivation status, and a sterilization system for packaging materials.
Consequently, it can supply stable deliciousness year-round. Furthermore, because it is unaffected by insects or bacteria, it has the significant characteristic of being preservable for nearly a week under refrigeration.
Named "1 WEEK SALAD"
Using containers originally intended for drinks like smoothies, a sign-like card cut into the shape of an "expiration date" was placed inside. The intention was that the store's atmosphere would change daily, with different colors and font styles for each of the 31 days.
Furthermore, to make each day enjoyable, a different flavor is prepared daily, and inside the card, alongside an introduction to the project, a "word of the day" is discreetly laid out. The result is a design that aims to playfully communicate two key characteristics that are difficult to convey in a typical retail setting: "stable supply = integration into daily life" and "long-term preservation."
