Exhibition "MINGEI meets DESIGN" Held



Mototsugu Igarashi, a potter who continues to create white and blue porcelain in Aizu-Wakamatsu, Fukushima, and OPENERS'"Tokyo Romantic Izakaya" seriescollaborated with designer Yota Kakuda. The white porcelain vessels "IGARASHI/KAKUDA" were born from this collaboration. They will be exhibited and sold at two venues, "Nakameguro SML" and "RED CLOVER nakameguro," starting Saturday, June 21st.

"Tools" That Inspire the User's Imagination


+ Mototsugu Igarashi, the "creator," and Yota Kakuda, the "designer." What is born from the collaboration of these two is not "artworks" but "tools."The forms, honed through the pursuit of use, possess a freshness as if born from morning dew, stimulating the user's diverse imagination. This exhibition will not only feature "IGARASHI/KAKUDA" but also a variety of tools designed by Yota Kakuda across different fields.











At Nakameguro SML, the focus will be on the white porcelain vessels "IGARASHI/KAKUDA" designed by Yota Kakuda and produced by Mototsugu Igarashi. Also on display and for sale will be individual works by Mototsugu Igarashi, and tableware "Common" designed by Yota Kakuda,"Common" tablewarewall clocks "Clock A, Clock B," Japanese paper "KAMI," and shirts with white porcelain buttons designed by Yota Kakuda and Yuichi Kobayashi, and produced by Mototsugu Igarashi.



On Saturday, June 21st, starting at 5:00 PM, the "MINGEI meets DESIGN" opening party will be held at the same venue. Enjoy food and drinks prepared by food stylist Nobuko Nakayama, served in Mototsugu Igarashi's vessels, alongside the creators. Mototsugu Igarashi and Yota Kakuda will also be present on the day (free admission, no prior reservation required).



Furthermore, "RED CLOVER," which selects "things" that can propose "new value" with the theme "simple is beautiful," will also host the exhibition. Titled "MINGEI x RED CLOVER," it will feature an simultaneous exhibition and sale of white porcelain vessels "IGARASHI/KAKUDA" and modern "Mingei" vessels selected by RED CLOVER.

Yota KAKUDA | KAKUDA Yota

Designer. Born in Sendai. Moved to the UK in 2003 and gained experience at various firms. Completed studies at the Royal College of Art (RCA) in 2007. After returning to Japan in 2008, he worked as a product designer for MUJI before establishing YOTA KAKUDA DESIGN in 2011.
