Introducing the "SCARF BY KAMAWANU" collection
Founded in 1987, Kamawanu is a tenugui specialty store that has breathed new life into the traditional Chusen dyeing technique, which has developed in Japan for over 100 years since the Meiji era, releasing more than 500 types of tenugui. Recently, the new brand "BY KAMAWANU" made its Japan debut at Isetan Shinjuku Store. Among its offerings, the "SCARF BY KAMAWANU" collection, designed by Thomas Lykke (OeO Design Studio), is generating significant buzz.

Softens with repeated use
"BY KAMAWANU" is an international brand newly launched by tenugui specialty store Kamawanu. The scarf collection "SCARF BY KAMAWANU," designed by Thomas Lykke, who is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, along with "TENUGUI BY KAMAWANU," selected from Kamawanu's original designs, were presented at "Ambiente 2014," the world's largest consumer goods trade fair held in Frankfurt, Germany, in February of this year.
The scarf collection initially featured six patterns and ten variations: Triangle, Dots, Stripes, Zig Zag, Sakura, and Clover. At the debut exhibition in Isetan, Diamond was added as a new pattern. It is designed by combining the traditional Japanese "Asanoha" (hemp leaf) motif with the diamond, a modern lucky charm.
Furthermore, a touring exhibition of "BY KAMAWANU" is being held at the "Kamawanu Asakusa Store Utensils store," which opened at the end of last year, until Thursday, April 24th. The exhibition utilizes the entire second-floor gallery space, "piece," for a bold installation and offers sales of the complete tenugui collection.

Thomas Lykke (OeO Design Studio)
After serving as a creative editor for the UK's Wallpaper* Magazine, he now leads "OeO Design Studio," a design firm based in Copenhagen, Denmark. His work includes directing for Georg Jensen and Fritz Hansen, and even designing Copenhagen Airport. In Japan, he has directed and designed "Japan Handmade" with go-on in Kyoto, and his products, which refresh traditional Japanese techniques into new values for the modern era, have received high acclaim worldwide.
