Exploring new possibilities revealed by the characteristics of materials and their combinations

Kazunaga Sakashita of CRITIBA designs furniture and products that serve as communication tools, and objects meant to be cherished and used for a long time, drawing inspiration from everything around him—the myriad things in nature. He seeks to imbue objects with "humidity" by exploring new possibilities that emerge from the properties of materials and their combinations, valuing the process.

A flower vase that integrates water, vase, and plant through surface tension

SHALLOWS (a flower blooming in a puddle)

Last year, CRITIBA unveiled "SHALLOWS," a crystal flower vase utilizing water's surface tension. It features a carved cylindrical form, 100mm in diameter and 120mm in height, with a central hole 20mm in diameter and 100mm deep for arranging flowers.

Furthermore, a gentle, shallow basin is created from the top edge of the cylinder towards the center, with a depth of 5mm. This allows water to pool on the cylinder's surface. By filling it with water to the brim, surface tension is effectively generated. This tension merges the "boundary between water and vase," making it feel as if the water has become one with the crystal's texture. Combined with the arranged plants, the three elements become a unified whole.

Dimensions: φ100mm x H120mm, Material: Crystal, Price: To be determined (Inquire)

The concept: a convenient and stylish bird

BIRD on the book (brass version)

"BIRD on the book" is a brass book and paperweight that functions simply by being placed on a recipe book. When not in use, it serves as an aesthetically pleasing object left out casually. Formed through casting and finished with a simple hairline treatment without any coating, its surface changes over time, developing a rich patina. This product allows users to enjoy the evolving character of the brass as it ages.

There's no need to put it away. Even when not in use, it exudes an atmosphere of being on display. The design considers how to maintain beauty even when left casually placed, given that the time it's not in use is overwhelmingly longer.

Dimensions: W220mm x D45mm x H30mm, Weight: 570g, Material: Brass, Finish: Uncoated, Price: ¥7,000 (excluding tax)

The concept: a "horse" that is useful in daily life

“UMA” Trestle (work desk, Table and more…)

The "UMA" work desk can be adapted to various uses depending on the environment by changing the tabletop material and size. In factories and workshops, trestles (workbenches) are commonly referred to as "uma." These structures can become tables or scaffolding simply by bridging a tabletop, adapting their function to the situation.

Inspired by these trestles, the design retains their functionality while eliminating their ruggedness and coarseness, incorporating gentle, soft lines for stylish use in both living and office spaces. The result is a design that fits seamlessly into various environments.
