The 1986 Pirelli Calendar by Helmut Newton has been carefully preserved in the Pirelli archives. This release is part of the anniversary commemoration, capitalizing on the fortunate coincidence that 1986 and 2014 share the same calendar year, approximately 30 years apart.
The calendar features a layout that respects the original project, comprising 12 monochrome fine art photographs and 29 backstage images capturing the behind-the-scenes moments of the shoot conducted in Chianti and Monte Carlo in 1985. These are an unreleased edition, produced with respect for Helmut Newton's vision for the original project. The completed works are edited to faithfully reflect his artistic vision.
The Pirelli Calendar, first produced in 1964, is shot annually with top photographers and models representing the era. It is a highly exclusive calendar gifted only to key clients. To commemorate its 50th anniversary, various events are being held at Pirelli HangarBicocca, Pirelli's contemporary art hub in Milan.
In June of this year, special shots by photographers Peter Lindbergh and Patrick Demarchelier were unveiled in New York, featuring renowned models such as Alessandra Ambrosio, Helena Christensen, Miranda Kerr, and Karolina Kurkova. Furthermore, at the end of November, an exhibition showcasing over 160 works by more than 30 photographers who have previously shot the Pirelli Calendar was opened to the public as a retrospective.
