Refined Store Design by Makoto Koizumi
Established in 1898, Kōchōsai Kosuga (こうちょうさい こすが) is a long-standing company that has produced a variety of bamboo products based in Kyoto.
In recent years, the company has been involved in everything from the management of bamboo forests and procurement of raw materials to the manufacturing and sale of products, undertaking initiatives that demonstrate new possibilities for traditional industries.
Kōchōsai Kosuga is now opening a shop at Tokyu Plaza Shibuya, its first base in the Kanto region. This will be their fourth store, following the main store in Kyoto, the Osaka store, and the online shop.
The spatial design of the new store, as with existing stores, was handled by designer Makoto Koizumi.
To convey the appeal of bamboo as a material and the craftsmanship passed down through generations with dedication, the space has been finished as a comfortable environment that utilizes traditional bamboo craft techniques.
Mr. Koizumi was also involved in the products to be offered, with new items such as lamps made from bamboo also available.
Tokyu Plaza Shibuya, with its theme of "mature adults with urban sensibilities," is set to open on Thursday, December 5, 2019. Kōchōsai Kosuga's new store is a place where adults can appreciate the spirit of the artisans and the aesthetic of bamboo products.
