First Exhibition Outside of California Showroom
Heath Ceramics is a pottery brand founded in 1948 by Edith Heath and her husband Brian Heath in Sausalito, California.
Today, it is widely known in America as a manufacturer of ceramics and architectural tiles, but it began as a small workshop.
Since 2003, under owners Catherine Bailey and Robin Petravic, the business has steadily expanded, opening a showroom and studio in Los Angeles in 2008 and a factory and showroom in San Francisco's Mission District in 2012.
They have deepened their friendship with Landscape Products since 2003. Landscape Products has long sold their tableware and tiles at Playmountain, their official distributor in Japan. Furthermore, since its opening, the company's directly managed cafe, "Tas Yard," has used Heath Ceramics for its in-house tableware, demonstrating their close relationship.
This autumn, an exhibition and event jointly planned by these two companies will be held at two venues in Tokyo. First, an exhibition will begin on Friday, November 22nd, at the gallery space "Curator's Cube," followed by a pop-up event on Saturday, November 23rd, at the interior shop "Playmountain."
At Curator's Cube, an exhibition by Tung Chang, director of Heath Ceramics' experimental in-house workshop "Heath Clay Studio," will be held.
Tung Chang continuously experiments to develop unique works and objects, which eventually came to be released as the annual "Design Series."
The venue will feature a comprehensive display of the Design Series spanning seven years, along with a talk event with Heath Ceramics owners Catherine Bailey and Robin Petravic.
Meanwhile, at Playmountain, the other venue, a Heath Ceramics pop-up event will commence on Saturday, November 23rd. In addition to previously available colors, new colors, sold for the first time in Japan, will be featured, promising to fill the store with an unprecedented color palette.
Additionally, Heath Ceramics' seasonal limited collection, the "Soba Set," will be available for purchase. This series was conceived by "Heath Clay Studio" for enjoying soba noodles and sake. With colors inspired by Japanese lacquerware, it's a new collection that blends Heath Ceramics' modernity with Japanese elements. On the same day, Saturday, November 23rd, an event will be held at Cafe Tas Yard where you can enjoy freshly made soba noodles with the "Soba Set."
The soba will be prepared by naru®, a handmade soba restaurant from Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. This promises to be a valuable autumn event that satisfies all desires – artistic, culinary, and material.
