Royal Copenhagen

Unique artist creations, each one-of-a-kind.

"UNIKA" is Royal Copenhagen's collection of unique pieces by artists.
Its history is long, and it has continued as an important activity to this day, stemming from the high level of kiln technology and a vision for further development, for about 200 years.
In 2019, UNIKA, which finally made its debut in Japan, was created by Danish artist Pia Andersen.
This is an extremely unique collection that draws inspiration from the nature of Greenland, abstractly depicting the roughness and gentleness of nature through oil painting and etching, and then translating it into ceramics.
The bold brushwork is all underglaze, exploring various tonal ranges, and further enhanced with 24-karat gold. Underglaze refers to painting before glazing, a technique where decoration is applied before the glaze. A characteristic of this technique is that the pigments used are limited due to firing in a high-temperature kiln.
The precious works themselves tell the story of how valuable it is to challenge various tonal ranges under these strict conditions.
The UNIKA pieces from the proud Royal Copenhagen kiln undoubtedly carry a power that is unimaginable from the blue and white Royal Copenhagen.
