Craft Tiles Filled with Wisdom and Skill: Exploring Their Timeless Beauty and Charm

Hirata Tile, which began with the sale and installation of architectural ceramics, celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. As a specialized trading company for architectural ceramics, tiles, and sanitary ware for water areas, it has proposed various values for living. Among these, the craft tile collection "BISCUIT," which creates unique spaces, is full of the beauty and charm unique to handmade items. Beauty and Warmth Unachievable with Standardized Industrial Products

The "BISCUIT" collection of craft tiles from Hirata Tile.
As the name suggests, craft tiles are handmade tiles produced using various traditional methods passed down through the ages in different regions and cultures around the world, exhibiting a multitude of styles depending on the era and location.
In recent years, tile manufacturing has evolved through various technological innovations, including digital printing. However, the "BISCUIT" series brings together tiles with universal beauty, created through cultivated techniques and designs that incorporate the culture and climate of their respective regions.
The latest catalog for this series, the 2020 edition, has now been completed.
This year's collection focuses on the charm of ceramics unique to craft tiles, featuring a lineup that highlights their diverse expressive potential.
New additions include "Inline," which uses geometric patterns and exquisite glazes to create a modern spatial finish, and "Raujolles" from the South of France, known for its neutral color palette that blends seamlessly into any space.
Furthermore, "Miyabi" (雅), designed by ceramic artist Goe Ito, features soft floral motifs reminiscent of stamped clay, with a smooth ceramic texture that imparts a gentle impression.
"Karussell" consists of square and irregularly shaped mosaic tiles, allowing for enjoyment of the material's beauty and unique patterns through various laying methods and combinations.
The latest catalog also proposes various application methods and expressive techniques, such as using these tiles as wall accents or in combination with decorative tiles like border tiles.
We hope many people will experience the warmth and depth, unique to craft tiles and absent in industrial products, offered by the "BISCUIT" series through the catalog and at our showrooms. You will truly realize what it means to be one of a kind.
Additionally, workshops led by Goe Ito, the designer of "Miyabi," will be held at both the Osaka and Tokyo venues for the "BISCUIT 2020 New Product Launch Event." Participants can create their own unique tiles using clay with "Miyabi" floral patterns, five types of glazes, and various ceramic tools. It's a valuable opportunity, and the fact that it's free of charge is a welcome bonus. Don't miss this precious chance.
