The auction at Sotheby's features a collection curated by two of the world's leading designers, Sir Jonathan Ive and Marc Newson. The classic Georg Jensen "Pitcher 992" has been reimagined by the duo with a special interior lacquered finish.
Marc Newson commented on this project: "For Johnny (Sir Jonathan Ive) and myself, curating a series of exceptional collections born from designs we deeply admire, transcending time and place, is akin to embarking on a thrilling journey. It's not merely a challenge, but an endeavor to imbue cultural significance into a form that extends beyond its original functionality. We hope that each piece and its creation process will convey human value, and that the works will be offered at auction with a multitude of perspectives, encouraging the utmost consideration for the preciousness of human life."
The "Pitcher 992," a masterpiece of sterling silver, is the culmination of the finest materials and exceptional craftsmanship. Georg Jensen has never before applied a colored lacquer finish to the interior of its pitchers. However, at the strong request of both Jonathan Ive and Marc Newson, this special edition for the (RED) auction has been transformed into a luxurious piece, accented with a vibrant Pantone® 1805C red.
David Chu, CEO and Chief Creative Officer of Georg Jensen, stated: "We are deeply honored that Georg Jensen can contribute to charitable support through such a meaningful initiative. Furthermore, Marc and Jonathan are world-renowned designers, and I am greatly captivated by their refined sensibility and extraordinary talent in creating exceptional designs. The fusion of their discerning eye for quality and design with Georg Jensen's high craftsmanship, as we approach our 110th anniversary next year, marks a new journey for us on the global stage."
