Gathering and Documenting Beauty and Value
The proliferation of design events, starting in the late 1990s with Design Tide (which unfortunately concluded last year), has led to the widespread understanding of "design." Today, the potential of design has expanded significantly in every sense.
"SHOWCASE" is an exhibition for the future, born from a keen awareness of this moment, possessing new visions and creative power. "From next year, we aim for simultaneous exchange with various countries. This year, we have selected and documented Japanese designers and artists with potential and vision in design, based on a single standard. Their individual experiments and approaches to the era are evident," say the three curators.
The lineup for this inaugural event includes: Ryoji Ishioka and Sayuri Ishioka of the brand "enamel."; Makoto Orizaki, an interdisciplinary artist; Koji Kumagai, a ceramic artist; Yuuri Suzuki, a London-based designer; Ryo Suzuki, a photographer; Rikako Nagashima, a graphic designer and art director; Hideyuki Nakayama, an architect; and Nariki Fujishiro, a product designer.
We look forward to seeing their ambition to create opportunities for the exchange of beauty and value, fostering the next phase and generating new culture and thought.
