Livescribe "Echo Smartpen" Launched in Japan
Gakken Educational Publishing will release the "echo smartpen" in early November. Developed by US-based Livescribe, this ICT device can simultaneously record and digitize handwritten notes and audio, and has sold over 1.5 million units worldwide.

The Echo Smartpen has received particularly high praise from businessmen and educators.
The Echo Smartpen digitizes handwriting, drawings, and audio into data that can be managed on a computer. The quality of digitization is exceptionally clear, unlike scans or photographs. It also records audio simultaneously with writing, linking the sound to the written content. Tapping on written text in the notebook allows you to jump to the corresponding recorded audio, playing back the moment of writing with full presence.
Furthermore, when connected to a computer via a micro USB cable, the handwritten notes and recorded audio from the dedicated notebook are automatically transferred to the included "Livescribe Desktop" management software, allowing for seamless management and editing on your computer.
You can digitize and carry multiple notebooks, and without needing to separate notes by theme, the "Livescribe Desktop" software allows you to extract only the necessary pages to create custom notes. This is invaluable for organizing information and ideas.
Additionally, using the included Japanese OCR software, "MyScript for Livescribe Desktop," you can search handwritten Japanese text and quickly convert it into text data. This converted text can then be copied and used in emails or documents.
The included "Livescribe Desktop" software also enables you to select and edit any page from your managed notebooks to create and save PDF files with embedded audio. These audio-enabled PDFs can be attached to emails, allowing you to share your handwritten notes with audio to others. The system also features direct posting to Facebook, making it easy to share your handwritten notes with audio among friends.
