Dedicated to the quintessential dandy who shaped 19th-century France during its formative years.Since 1992, MONTBLANC has annually unveiled the "Writers Edition," a collection of handcrafted writing instruments honoring the achievements of a single author. The Darling of Parisian Salons and Father of Literary Realism in the Mid-19th Century

Honoré de Balzac (1799–1850), renowned as the father of literary realism, left behind a diverse body of work during his relatively short life. His intricate narratives, featuring a rich tapestry of characters in works like "Père Goriot" and "Lily of the Valley," vividly portray the struggles of individuals navigating French society of the era, much like observing a meticulously crafted ukiyo-e print. As we follow his engaging and entertaining prose, we are effortlessly drawn into the worlds he created..

Balzac was also known for captivating numerous society women and for his fondness for the style that is still recognized today as gentlemen's daytime formal wear: a black coat paired with grey striped trousers (morning coat). Balzac himself was often seen gracing society events in this very attire.

The Dandyism of a Realist Writer, Recreated with Precision

Montblanc's new writing instrument collection, "Writers Edition 2013 Honoré de Balzac," features a two-tone body of black precious resin and grey lacquer with fine guilloché detailing, mirroring the color scheme of the morning coat Balzac favored.

The substantial, bold body, reflecting Balzac's flamboyant and uninhibited life, is contrasted by a delicate clip topped with turquoise lacquer, symbolizing the ornate walking sticks Balzac carried.

Furthermore, the platinum- and gold-finished rings gradually increase in opulence from the barrel end to the cap top, representing the class structure of 19th-century French society.

The signature engraved on the cap top and the initials on the rhodium-plated 750 gold nib speak to the collection's dedication to Balzac.

The "Writers Edition 2013 Honoré de Balzac" perfectly captures the dandyism of mid-19th-century gentlemen in its design. As with previous Writers Editions, once production ceases, all specifications and molds are destroyed, preserving its value as a collector's item.
