Pierluigi Ghianda

Born in 1926, the son of Iginio and Serafina Mercandalli. The Ghianda family had been active as highly skilled woodworkers and furniture makers in Bovisio, in the heart of Brianza, since 1889. After Iginio's death in '38, his wife Serafina managed the workshop. In 1946, Pierluigi and his brother Giuseppe expanded the production of office furniture. Following his brother Giuseppe's death in '67, Pierluigi, with his wife Francesca, began collaborating with the great designers of the time. The workshop moved to its current location at Via Desio 53.

In '72, his fruitful personal and professional relationship with Gianfranco Frattini deepened, spurred by a trip to Japan. Pierluigi's craftsmanship and Frattini's uncompromising rigor led to the creation of iconic works such as the "Kyoto Table" and "Portofino Cabinet." Throughout the 80s, late 90s, and 2000s, while continuing to produce prototypes and objects with great designers, Pierluigi dedicated his time to crafting bespoke furniture for private clients and offices. He gained significant international experience in Moscow, New York, and Paris.

In 2013, during the Salone del Mobile, an exhibition titled "Doing is Thinking," in homage to Pierluigi Ghianda, was held at the Milan Triennale, where a documentary was officially screened in the Agorà Theatre.
