Visual Communication That Endures Through Time
Bruno Munari, who began his career as a painter, was active in an astonishingly diverse range of fields. He is known for exploring the expressive potential of children and for his dedication to education through visual communication. One such creation is the educational toy "Images of the Real World," produced in 1976. The box contains 40 cards with printed photographs and blank drawing cards. The photo cards feature the following:
Color photographs of objects (a hand, a bird, a lightbulb, a shoe, a fish)
Black-and-white and negative versions of the same objects, photographed from different angles
Photographs of incorrect objects (a glove, a nest, a candle, a foot, a shell)
The name of the same object written in six languages
How to play:
1. One child shows a card, and the other children name the object printed on it. Encourage them to name not only the object but also the angle from which it was photographed, and whether it's in color, black-and-white, or negative.
2. One child says the name of an object, and the others find the card with its photograph. Alternatively, use the cards with written names to match the object's image to its written word, or vice versa.
This masterpiece allows children to learn about real-world objects and their images through exquisite graphics. It's perfect for playing with children or as a decorative piece for your interior.
