Experience "Art de Vivre" (Art of Living) on This Occasion
The exhibition "NO TASTE FOR BAD TASTE - Starck, Bouroullec...", introducing French design, organized by VIA (French Furniture Promotion Association), will be held from Friday, March 15th at 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT Gallery 3.
This exhibition, which commemorates VIA's 40 years of contribution and support for interior design, is a traveling show. A think tank formed by 40 internationally active creators has identified 10 key concepts that define "French Design," and based on these, 40 products have been selected. The Tokyo exhibition will introduce this program and focus on five of the ten key concepts, displaying 20 products that symbolize them.
This exhibition, supported by Institut Français, an organization that promotes contemporary design and enhances the international recognition of French artists, has been traveling worldwide since 2017. It distills the elegance of French design for global enjoyment while communicating how the French design scene integrates art and industry. Following exhibitions in Milan, Venice, Montreal, Miami, Los Angeles, NY, and Buenos Aires, this Tokyo showing marks the first in Asia. The global tour is set to continue through Asia, including China, Singapore, and Taiwan, until 2020, before returning to Europe in 2021, having visited over 20 countries.
One of the exhibition's objectives is to share the identity of designers and manufacturers globally, and this exhibition was launched as part of VIA's "French Design" program.
The first step was the formation of a think tank to define the concept of "French Design." This brought together 40 creators, including designers, architects, philosophers, and museum curators, who are active internationally in France's cultural and design industries, to derive the 10 key concepts that form the foundation of "French Design."

Furthermore, based on these concepts, benchmarks were established, and 40 products were carefully selected over an extended period. The Tokyo exhibition, in addition to introducing this program, focuses on five of the ten key concepts, displaying 20 products that symbolize them. It promises to be a unique opportunity to share and appreciate the values of French design, such as balance, boldness, openness, and the underlying sense of refinement.
We invite you to experience the "Art de Vivre" (Art of Living) from French designers, manufacturers, and artisans.
