Lexus has opened submissions for the "Lexus Design Award 2017," a design competition for creators who will shape the next generation. This year's theme is "YET." The submission deadline is October 16, 2016.

The "LEXUS DESIGN AWARD 2017" is a design competition for emerging creators worldwide. Established in 2013 to foster and support "DESIGN" that creates enriched societies and better futures, and the emerging creators who generate ideas, this marks its fifth year.

Twelve works will be selected through judging and are scheduled to be exhibited at the Lexus venue during "Milan Design Week 2017" in Milan, Italy. Of these twelve, four will receive mentorship from world-renowned creators and up to three million yen in funding to proceed with prototype development.

For prototype development, they will receive advice from architectural and design unit Neri & Hu, designer Max Lamb, designer Elena Manferdini, and artist-architect unit Snarkitecture.

Indeed, past award winners have gone on to achieve great success after winning, including commercialization of their works and collaborations with companies.

The "Sense-Wear" by Emanuele Corti and Ivan Parati, which won the inaugural Grand Prix at the Lexus Design Award 2015 two years ago,"Sense-Wear" by Emanuele Corti and Ivan Paratiwas exhibited at Lexus-related events in Japan and Russia after its Milan showing. The Grand Prix winner of the Lexus Design Award 2016,Agar packaging material by AMAMhas garnered attention, receiving invitations to design exhibitions in multiple countries, including Switzerland. Furthermore, Lexus will adopt this work as packaging material for a limited quantity of cups from Craftsmanship for Lexus's ONE KILN, starting August 10.

The submission period for this year's competition is until October 16, 2016. The twelve award-winning works will be announced in early 2017. In conjunction with the opening of submissions, the award-winning works from the Lexus Design Award 2016, exhibited at Milan Design Week 2016 in April, will be showcased in a triumphant return exhibition at INTERSECT BY LEXUS - TOKYO in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo, from August 10 to September 9.
