A Yoga Mat Trusted by Instructors

Studio Bycolor, led by Kaori Akiyama, is participating in the joint project "Mekong Design Selection" with Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam. They will unveil the new yoga mat "CANTEIL SOKAPIAP" at "GOOD DESIGN EXHIBITION 2015 (G Exhibition)" held from Friday, October 30th, on the 3rd floor of Tokyo Midtown, in front of the Suntory Museum of Art.

CANTEIL SOKAPIAP is a product jointly developed by Japanese designers and local manufacturers, using 100% sedge harvested in the Kandal region of Cambodia. While maintaining the traditional local process, functionality as a "yoga mat" is added by weaving in different materials with the sedge. CANTEIL SOKAPIAP means "mat for health" in Cambodian, and by enhancing "cushioning and grip" that could not be achieved with traditional sedge mats, it adds value to conventional mats.

A New Encounter Between Cutting-Edge Technology and Traditional Crafts

At the "Autodesk Gallery Pop-Up Tokyo" currently being held in Omotesando, Tokyo, until Sunday, November 8th, "Kiri-urushi" designed by Studio Bycolor is on display. Autodesk Gallery Pop-Up Tokyo features the latest technologies from a wide range of fields including product design, architecture, social infrastructure, entertainment, art, and fashion. "Kiri-urushi" successfully expresses variations in acrylic thickness by arranging frost and ice-like patterns in relief along the waist and torso, while retaining the traditional elements of lacquerware.

At the "Social Product Exhibition ~Yururi to Tsunagaru Product Exhibition~" held at "Monozukuri Kan by YKK" in Akihabara until Saturday, October 31st, new works from the "YUI ITO" project, which protects the forests of Yoshino with fabric born from Yoshino wood, are on display. Studio Bycolor is involved in the overall visual direction (graphics, web, etc.) and product direction and color scheme for YUI ITO.

Simmons, exhibiting at "TOKYO DESIGN WEEK" held in front of the Meiji Jingu Gaien Picture Gallery, is launching "blinka," a new category. Blinka, a word meaning "blink" in Swedish and Dutch, is a new sensation sofa designed by Studio Bycolor, utilizing pocket coils used in mattresses and quilting technology. The Blinka series, consisting of four items – two sizes of stools and two sizes of sofas – has been developed as a product that fits not only living spaces but also public spaces such as lobbies and lounges, and even office spaces seeking changes in work styles.

At "Sghr Sugahara Shop," a specialty store for handmade glassware in Aoyama, Tokyo, the jewelry "Uminami Pearl" has been launched in collaboration with Sugahara Kogyo Glass. The jewelry, born from the combination of baroque pearls from Uwajima, Ehime Prefecture, and glass crafted with expert techniques, expresses the "mother sea."
