The Quintessential Girard Sensibility
Alexander Girard, a designer whose work spanned interiors, furniture, fabrics, and exhibition design, and a close friend of Charles Eames, has passed down a distinct creative DNA.
Marshall Girard, Alexander's son, assisted with numerous projects from his father's studio during his childhood. His children, Kori and Aleishall Girard, grew up under the influence of their father and grandfather, inheriting the family's unique aesthetic. 'GIRARD CONTINUED' at CURATOR’S CUBE offers a glimpse into how Alexander Girard's creations, born from a deep appreciation for family time, have been passed on to his children and grandchildren.
Connecting Toranomon and Marunouchi Through the Creations of Alexander Girard and His Descendants
To coincide with this event, the Herman Miller Store in Marunouchi is hosting 'Alexander Girard: An Uncommon Vision.' Viewing both exhibitions will offer a deeper appreciation of the Girard family's creative legacy and DNA.
A reception party with Kori and Aleishall Girard will be held on the opening day, October 24th (Saturday) from 6 PM. We invite you to experience the creations of the Girard family firsthand.
Marshall Girard
For 35 years, Marshall Girard has been a constructor of adobe architecture in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Drawing on this expertise and his childhood experience assisting his father, Alexander Girard, on various projects, Marshall now creates sculptures. Having worked with diverse materials over the years, he is currently exploring unique combinations of wood and recycled cans. His works, inspired by African masks and the geometric patterns found in nature, reflect the same relentless exploration of material and form that Alexander pursued throughout his career.
Alexander Kori Girard
Kori Girard's art is deeply influenced by his travels worldwide, particularly his time in India. The environment of his folk art-filled childhood is also strongly reflected in his work. This exhibition features a series of small ink and pen drawings, alongside larger gouache paintings inspired by architecture and textiles.
Aleishall Girard Maxon
Aleishall Girard Maxon has already garnered acclaim in the fashion world for her vibrant necklaces crafted from colorful threads. She is now exploring larger-scale sculptural works using the same materials. Her distinctive color palette evokes the unique hues of New Mexico and the dazzling chromatic intensity of her grandfather, Alexander Girard.
