Text by KAJII Makoto (OPENERS)
Live Painting and Sessions Also Held During the Period
When the sun's light extends its roots,
grass, flowers, and trees all reach towards it.
When I extend my paints with feelings like those roots,
I feel as if my paintings reach back.
Bathed in light, grow strong, my paintings.
Miroco Machiko, a painter and picture book author, has garnered immense popularity since her picture book debut in 2012, receiving numerous awards including the Grand Prize at the Japan Picture Book Awards for her works characterized by unique observation and color sense. At the "arflex × Miroco Machiko: Taiyo no Nekko" event, you will have a precious opportunity to experience how Miroco Machiko's world gradually takes shape within the modern interior space over time, through the exhibition of her painted works on arflex furniture and live painting sessions with music.
Some Exhibited Works Will Be Available for Purchase
In this exhibition, Miroco Machiko's first endeavor in an interior space, she will visit the arflex shop Tokyo frequently during the event period to create works on-site, allowing visitors to witness the collection grow day by day.
Furthermore, a collection of her past works, both large and small, will be displayed. This includes "Forest of Moose," brimming with vitality and seemingly about to burst from its large canvas, first shown during a live creation at the Yokosuka Museum of Art in 2014 and later exhibited at the Tagawa City Museum of Art, as well as "Nagasu Whale," created in 2010 and measuring approximately 9.8 meters in length.
Miroco Machiko shares her message: "In this event, 'Taiyo no Nekko,' my first collaboration with an interior space, I will create and expand works based on the theme of the sun throughout the period. I will embed creatures and plants within the gaps of the furniture, creating a world that feels like being in a forest. Please come and experience this endeavor, where the forest feels different each time you visit."
I want to experience Miroco Machiko's world through her powerfully and colorfully depicted works, themed around "Taiyo no Nekko."
