Experimental Creations Project Showcasing Material Experiments | EXHIBITION
EXHIBITION
A space for presenting exciting, experimental, and new forms of expression.
Project 'Experimental Creations' Opens
The project 'Experimental Creations,' focusing on material experiments and the creative process, will showcase the material experiments of 11 emerging designers for three days starting October 25 (Sunday) during Tokyo Design Week at Light Box Studio Aoyama in Tokyo's Aoyama district.

Experimenting with Materials Through Creative Ideas
For example, designer AZUCHI will present a creative endeavor involving imitation pearls. By using a paint that glows under sunlight and dipping the pearls into it, the aim is to develop imitation pearls that exhibit new colors generated by the sun's light and shadow.
'Experimental Creations,' held from the approach that 'when creating something, it is important to design not only for the beauty of its form and functionality, but also to incorporate added value such as texture and color,' is a project that expands the possibilities of design by 'experimenting' with materials themselves through creative ideas, rather than designing the form using existing materials.
Presenting Exploratory Prototypes and Process Investigations
The piece at the top right, 'COMPOSITION' by Takt Project, treats electronic components as material. A composite material, created by mixing and solidifying them with resin that was intended for exterior use, is electrically conductive and functional as a product, giving birth to a viable material. By considering materials from the ground up, it serves as an exploratory prototype reflecting on the boundary between material and product, and the existing frameworks that define it.
The piece at the bottom left, 'Bare Skin' by Keita Hanazawa, explores a method for product development while preserving the beautiful unglazed surface of ceramics. Typically, after an initial firing (bisque firing), ceramics are glazed and fired again to increase water resistance and strength. This second firing at higher temperatures alters the texture, finish, and color, leaving no trace of the original bisque surface. 'Bare Skin' seeks a way to commercialize the product while retaining that beautiful unglazed texture.
A Scaffolding Space Appears on the Studio Rooftop!
The piece at the top right, 'cALoth' by Yu Matsuda, is a new material created by bonding aluminum foil and fabric. It can be described as a 'shape-memory cloth' or 'unbreakable aluminum foil.' Its ability to be freely deformed by hand offers potential for users' creativity, fostering new forms of creation.
For the three days of 'Experimental Creations,' a scaffolding space will emerge on the rooftop of Light Box Studio. Exciting new expressions from emerging designers will be presented within this experimental environment.
